Re: Moderators Are Us
Well, the first thing I'm doing is testing out my new mod powers to post here.
Woohoo! It worked!

Woohoo, I like this place already. Just ask and it appears! I'll claim the purple one in the middle.

Index Packing
Hi All,
I keep playing with the "index packing" setting of the Home page. This sets how categories (e.g., What's Important? Purpose) are grouped all together or split into their own boxes. It also sets where the forums (e.g., Microfinance and Directed Giving) show, with or without subforums, if at all. Mostly, I've been showing categories in their own boxes, with top-level forums, with or without second-level forums. Now that we're getting a little more content, it's easier to see how the different layouts look and how to navigate them.
So, what do you think? One way over another? Keep us guessing? Just pick something and leave it there already!

Re: Moderators Are Us
I am new at this so I am not sure. I will keep viewing and thinking and see how it appears.
One thing I would like to mention is that I hope we can keep this forum better organized than some forums. It would be nice to be able to find things on this forum and that is not always the case on other forums.
One problem with having several hundred threads is that there are several threads within the hundreds of threads that discuss the same topic and, in addition, it is difficult to search those threads.
I think having fewer threads will help. I would like to see similar discussions grouped under the same topic. For example, that is why I made the topic title for Zafen include "news, updates, announcements, discussion." Hopefully people will put everything related to Zafen under that one topic heading and not creat several different topic headings for Zafen (or any other microfinance organization). I think each microfinance organization should have its own topic, but then all posts related to that organization should go in that topic or thread (except possibly the introduction).
Other people may have different opinions and I am certainly open to all ideas.

Actually, I like the way it looks now, the way it has been rearranged some. I agree that as the number of categories, forums and topics increases, they cannot all have their own boxes on the Home page. I think the way you have some of the forums listed now is fine (under the microfinance category).

Re: Moderators Are Us
So, are the links at the bottom of the pages being generated automagically from URLs contained in our posts, or is someone manually adding them? What are the limitations? I would trust that there is some sort of cap on how many can be displayed there or they could get quite unwieldy after a few more days of posting even on the scale of what we've built so far. Is there control over them, allowing some of them to be sticky? most popular? most recent? ...?

I confess! It is I who is messing with the footer!
I was testing some stuff out
Now, it looks more like a typical site navigation footer that roughly follows the top-level content forums structure.
When available, the links go to the polls that have the more detailed resource descriptions and polls!
